Dental Emergency Response

It is very likely that at some point in your life, you will be placed in a situation where you need to find an emergency dental clinic. Perhaps you fell over and broke a tooth well after surgery hours, or maybe your tooth ache is simply too painful to bear while waiting for an appointment.

Either way, you will be surprised to find that sourcing a twenty four hour emergency practice is not as difficult as you may have imagined. To begin with, you will need to phone your ordinary dentist's surgery.

If your problem happens to coincide with opening hours, ask the receptionist for the number of the practice's affiliated emergency clinic. If your crisis has occurred in the middle of the night, however, or at a time when there is no secretary on duty to answer the phone, you should find that the answering machine message includes the number you need. Oral hygiene and effective dental care are crucial to a good, overall health maintenance strategy. Not only are decay and gum disease dangers in the mouth itself, but these have also been linked with very serious conditions like heart disease and stroke.

For these reasons, it is important to make sure that your household is one that respects an effective dental care routine. From an early age, your children should learn the importance of brushing and flossing, and should also become accustomed to frequent visits to the dental surgery.

Looking for a good family dentist in Etobicoke should not be a difficult task. If you are new to the area, ask around amongst connections you may have made at your children's school, or at work. Once you have drawn up a short list of potential surgeries, pay a visit to each one. (more...)

Contact a cosmetic dentist in your city to get your teeth whiten.

The cosmetic dentistry guides offers information on the different types of procedures cosmetic dentists work on and how to qualify for cosmetic dentistry work. Since you want a whiter smile, it will be easy to qualify for teeth bleaching. The cosmetic dentist may give you supplies or to offer you advice on how to keep them white. The cosmetic dentist will also let you know how often you will need to come into the office to get your teeth bleached.

The guide provides information on other cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as veneers and dental implants. Once you have a whiter smile, one of your teeth may fall out. If so, you don't want to go around with a missing tooth, especially if it is in the front. A consultation will be done to see what condition your gums and teeth are in. X-rays will be done as well. If you have any medical problems, such as diabetes, you may have to consult with your family doctor before the procedure can be done. (more...)

Increase in Dental Cavities Resulting in More Emergency Dental Visits

More cavities are occurring because of Ontario’s increasingly diverse population brings with it a weaker understanding, in some cultures, about the importance of dental health and regular non-emergency dental care. Also, several large communities continue to deliver non-fluoridated water to their residents which contribute to higher incidence of dental decay.

There is now better access to emergency dental , but not much better. Ten years ago, the American Dental Association released a report titled, “The Future of Emergency Dental Care”. It reflected input of different dentistry authorities across the range of the dental profession. One key finding was the urgent need to eliminate barriers to access, particularly among low income individuals.

Sadly, despite some isolated success dentistry stories and wonderful efforts of a few dedicated emergency dentists, improved access to dental care will still remain on the profession’s “to-do” list. More effort is needed to provide adequate emergency dental care for those that need it most.
